About Us

Saint Luke Lutheran Church is a community of faith reaching out in care and love in the name of Jesus Christ. We are a growing mosaic, people of God, who gather for worship of Word and Sacrament and then take seriously the call to then go and serve the Lord.

Where is the congregation of Saint Luke? Wherever the people of God are that week, wherever they are engaged in service as Christ’s people, there is the congregation of Saint Luke.

Saint Luke Lutheran Church is a part of the one holy apostolic church on earth, the body of Jesus Christ, and we are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Metropolitan DC synod. In partnering with the ELCA we are connected to 4.5 million Lutherans in the United States and over 70 million Lutherans around the world.

Saint Luke has been in Silver Spring since January 14, 1940, when a group of devoted saints heard the call to start a church reaching out to this greater Washington area. The congregation includes multi-faceted programs for all ages, a Christian Day School (pre-school), as well as a Conference/Retreat Center (Hallowood) at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain near Frederick, MD. We are also very involved in community and social ministries, reaching out to the homeless with a Sunday Afternoon Hospitality outreach during winter months, as well as serving as a founding member of the local assistance shelter, Shepherd’s Table.
