Stephen Ministry
Saint Luke through Stephen Ministry, an international and ecumenical program, equips lay people to provide confidential one-to-one Christian care to individuals who are experiencing challenging times in their lives.
Saint Luke Stephen Ministers are lay members who have received 50 hours of training to provide a Christian listening ear to those who may be facing difficulties due to change, good or challenging. Stephen Ministers also participate in regular supervision and support under the guidance of the Stephen Leaders and Pastors. Some of the life situations for Stephen Ministry may include the death of a loved one, illness of one or one’s loved one, loneliness, unemployment, job change, divorce or separation, birth or adoption of a child, faith crises, or simply experiencing a time of discouragement.
Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry. The identity of those receiving care and what is discussed in the caring relationship remains confidential.
Stephen Leaders are trained leaders in the program and from the congregation who help direct the Stephen Ministry outreach.
Stephen Ministry really acts as an extension of the pastoral office, assisting the pastors, providing support and care to many as it is needed.
